A Film About The Brain and Skating
Anyone who’s ever skated knows the gratifying feeling that floods your brain when you finally land a trick you’ve been trying forever, or the satisfying vibration of riding across a smooth brick surface. The discipline put in to chase these feelings is something that sticks with you forever, but why? Although skating feels good and is, actually, scientifically good for you, why do we like it so much?
Mind in Motion is an independent documentary film that highlights the connections between skateboarding, Behavioral Neuroscience, and mental health. Through a series of interviews with skaters and psychologists, the doc intends to demonstrate the multitude of health benefits that the unique culture of skating offers; creativity, resilience, emotional regulation, and empowerment, to name just a few.
By delving into the science as well as documenting the New York City skate community, the film will serve as a lasting record of skate culture as it exists today around the world, provide a deeper understanding of the brain's capacity to adapt and grow, and inspire future generations of skaters.
